Digital Art (Solo)06-26-2024 Oriental Dreamland
A digital art project depicting an atmospheric Chinese courtyard garden viewed from an interior perspective. The scene combines custom-built models with optimized third-party assets, custom materials, and atmospheric effects to create a tranquil and visually captivating dreamlike environment.

  • Handcraft Models and Materials:
    • Lantern: Modeled intricate a Chinese lantern with custom materials created from baked procedural noise textures combined with curvature weight patterns. Added physics simulation for realistic tassel movement.
    • Glass Grape Floral Box: Modeled a box inspired by a Qing Dynasty artifact, using AI-generated textures and customized materials to highlight its delicate design and historic aesthetic.
  • Third-Party Asset Integration:
    • Modified and optimized assets by reorganizing geometry and creating custom materials, ensuring a cohesive artistic style.
  • Scene Assembly and Atmospheric Effects:
    • Carefully considered composition to arrange assets and build the scene, balancing elements for a visually captivating perspective.
    • Enhanced the scene with volumetric fog, fog planes, and tailored lighting to create depth and a serene ambiance.
    • Final visuals were polished through post-production color grading in After Effects to achieve a dreamlike and cinematic atmosphere.

Softwares: Blender, After Effects

Inspiration
This project captures the essence of a dreamlike Oriental courtyard, aiming to evoke an exquisite, fantastical aesthetic of the East. Drawing inspiration from AI-generated imagery of traditional Chinese scenes, the design emphasizes on a purple-dominated palette, accented with scattered warm lights. The composition adopts a perspective that looks outward through an interior floral window, creating a balance between intricate foreground elements and the tranquil scenery beyond.

Lantern
Modeling:
  • The top and bottom structures were generated using a radial array of unit shapes.
  • The middle section was traditionally modeled to enhance the overall structure.
  • Tassels were simulated using hair physics for dynamic realism.

Materials:
  • Patterns were created by blending procedural noise and curvature weights, baked into a detailed texture.
  • Applied a color gradient using ramp nodes, and combined various shader nodes for rich and detailed material effects.

Glass Grape Floral Box
Modeling:
Inspired by a Qing Dynasty artifact, Pink Glass Box with Grape Motif and Double Ring Handles, the box was meticulously modeled to replicate its elegant form.

Materials:
  • Used AI-generated textures, enhanced with ramp nodes to achieve subtle color transitions.
  • Combined multiple BSDF shader nodes to recreate the artifact’s translucent, glass-like appearance.
    Modified and Reassembled Assets
    Models:
Assets, such as the pavilion, small river lanterns, and interior floral windows, were modified and reassembled based on the third-party models. Custom modeling elements were also integrated to align with the project’s artistic vision.

    Materials:
Materials were custom-created to ensure a cohesive and unique aesthetic.
    Scene Assembly & Atmospheric Effects
    Asset Integration:
    • Integrated and arrangedthird-party and handcrafted assets, ensuring a cohesive and harmonious layout.

    Atmospheric Enhancements:
    • Used Blender’s compositor to adjust colors and enhance visual harmony.
    • Added volumetric fog and fog planes to create depth and a mystical ambiance.
    • Finalized the visuals with post-production color grading in After Effects, achieving a polished, cinematic effect.
